Voted By Familes Like Yours! North Carolina's Finest.......Oak Islands Favorite !
Welcome to NC's Favorite Fishing Pier's website! Many North Carolina angling families refer to us as their "Fishing Home Away from Home" and thats also true of those spending time here in cyber space! The Ocean Crest Pier website was designed with you in mind. Its updated regularly so that our reports and photo's represent the "Newest" and most informative exciting day-to-day happenings. We're striving to invest in the lastest technologies making sure our webpages reflect the needs of the customers.
The Fantastic 2009 Fishing season has concluded here at Ocean Crest, and it was among the best ever. We're thankful for our anglers support. The anglers visiting here over these past seasons have had successful catches from among the many species of fishes available from the resources and the 2009 was no different. Included among those were dozens and dozens of beautiful pier record setting King Mackerel, Speckled Trout, Flounder and many other of the favored bottom fishes including some very nice Atlantic Pompano and Whiting aka Virgina Mullet. During the 2009 season we also witnessed jr angler Thomas Cutler add his name to the record boards with a 27 lb 7 oz Tripletail. The catch earned Thomas a honored "North Carolina State Record Award". His catch and record will be hard pressed to be out matched. We're honored having you visit our website and enjoying the photographic evidence of such feats and we truly hope those visits motivate your joining us for the Fun and Excitement in person........soon.
Ocean Crest Pier recognizes the ever changing economy and how it effects coastal salt water anglers. These undue changes have put new faces on old traditions and a way of life. We realize too, how these issues bare upon the many generations of North Carolina's fishing families and as well individual salt water sportsman. It's obvious too, that lots of familar North Carolina's coastal fishing piers have gone with the tides of change never to return.
We're proud we've weathered the continuing down turns in the economic climate encroaching our North Carolina coastal towns and cities here at Ocean Crest Pier.
Many folks have asked, and yes, it is true that Ocean Crest Pier is the last fully operational privately owned recreational fishing pier on Oak Island. It is also one of the fewer than a dozen or so piers in North Carolina in operation at all under private ownership and traditional operations, which favor anglers successes first over the bottom line. They're no burdens placed upon local citizens or visitors subsidizing the cost of operations with tax revenues taken by government collections, either. This is common practice with municipal operations like those at the Town of Oak Island Pier. Simply put, we've worked hard here at Ocean Crest Pier and our succces and longevity in the regional market place can only be accounted to having delivered, customer service with a genuine smile of gratitude as top priority. Much like yourselves we're an angling family here and we know all too well the importance of having knowledged based information. This information has become a mainstay which sets us a mile a part from other coastal North Carolina pier businesses. The in's & out's of fishing are important to our patrons in the same fashion they are to us. It helps fishers catch more of their favorite fishes. Our goals here always reflect upon those of our patrons. Its a simple formula of success. One we'll continue praticing as we move further into the new year during 2010.
Its imperitive to the Ocean Crest Pier orginazation, your time spent here is a positive experence. One worth repeating. It is with-out doubt the foundation of our success story here. Please visit here often and if you do it will surely motivate your visiting the deck of the pier, gear in tow! Remember too that the photographic images posted on our site are of real persons just like yourselves. In fact you may very well find your likenesses among them, friendly bragging rights included! So please, join in on the family fun and action, often. Don't miss out!
We're honored having all the Wonderful opportunites meeting you and it's fantasic having you bring your families and friends and making them a part of the excitement too, as well a part of our extended Ocean Crest Pier family. We realize the importance of fulfilling our responsibilities. If we have at the end of the day we can all proudly say..........We've all have had a successful day here.
We're Prouder than ever saying "We're staying put", and prouder knowing we'll be here during 2010 serving your families who have picked us as their final angling destination. Please take the time to visit our message boards, post your comments, and share those fishing secrets and suggestions, or simply visit the boards just to say hello!
We're certain you'll enjoy the day to day happenings of " Your Home Away From Home ". Probably as much as we do having you here.......it means the "World" to us! Everyday! Regards, Dave and The Entire Ocean Crest Pier Family!
Ocean Crest Pier is Located in the very Heart of the Oak Island, North Carolina Beach Front. We're easy to find at 1409 East Beach Drive. You may find many of those answers to your questions by visiting the website here and if not by phone. Please feel free to dial the Tackleshop anytime @ 1-910-278-6674 for directions or information. Remember folks......" The pierhouse closes for the 2009 season November 29th and will reopen for the 2010 season March 1st." Happy Holiday's all.... |

North Carolina Coastal Recreational Fishing License
The North Carolina’s Coastal Recreational Fishing License (CRFL) requirement for all salt water anglers 16 years of age and older, administered by the Division of Marine Fisheries (DMF), was effective beginning Jan. 1, 2007. This license can be purchased on a 10-day, annual or lifetime basis, or combined with a variety of licenses issued by the Wildlife Resources Commission (WRC).
Sales Agents
The new license is available from WRC license agents throughout the state and at any DMF office. The number of license agents will be increased in coastal areas.
Requirements
The license allows recreational fishermen to take finfish for personal consumption; finfish harvested under this license cannot be sold. Fishermen using this license are held to the state’s recreational size and possession limits. The license cannot be assigned or transferred and is required for ANY type of recreational finfish taken not included under the Recreational Commercial Gear License. Fishermen holding the CRFL are required to comply with all DMF sampling and survey programs.
The license is required to recreationally take finfish in the state’s Coastal Fishing Waters, which include sounds, coastal rivers and their tributaries, out to three miles in the ocean. Recreational anglers who catch fish in the Exclusive Economic Zone (3 miles – 200 miles offshore) will be required to have this license to land fish in state waters. Fishing in Joint Waters (areas managed by both the Marine Fisheries and the Wildlife Resources commissions) will require either the CRFL or a WRC inland fishing license.
Exemptions
Individuals under 16 years of age.
Individuals who had purchased any of the following WRC licenses prior to Jan. 1, 2006:
· All categories of Lifetime Sportsman licenses;
· Lifetime Resident Comprehensive Fishing License;
· Lifetime Combination Hunting and Fishing License for Disabled Resident Sportsman;
· Disabled Resident Sportsman;
· Lifetime Fishing License for the Legally Blind; and
· Adult Care Home Resident Fishing License.
Blocks of 10 Ten-Day Coastal Recreational Fishing Licenses
Beginning January 1, 2009, vessel owners or operators may purchase a block of 10, Ten-Day Coastal Recreational Fishing Licenses to cover anglers fishing aboard their boat. Each block contains ten licenses. Each license may be issued to one person and is valid for 10 consecutive days from the date first used. This block of licenses costs $150 and is available to owners of private vessels, or the responsible party of a business owned vessel. The boat must be 23 feet or more in length and either registered in North Carolina or do*****ented with the U.S. Coast Guard. These licenses cannot be used aboard a vessel licensed for, or engaged in, for hire (charter) fishing. There is no limit on how many blocks of licenses an individual can purchase. The licenses are not transferable or assignable – they must be used on the vessel for which they were issued. Each license, once issued and expired, must be returned to the Division in a postage paid envelope provided with each license. Each block of licenses is valid for two years from date of purchase. Blocks of 10 Ten-Day Coastal Recreational Fishing Licenses are only available from the Division of Marine Fisheries license offices or by mail.
Blanket Licenses
For-hire vessels and ocean fishing piers have the option to purchase a blanket license to cover their fishing patrons. When purchasing a Blanket License, vessel operators must provide a copy of the U. S. Coast Guard license that allows taking people for-hire. Please Note: Blanket Licenses are ONLY available at DMF offices
Waivers
A free license waiver is available for subsistence anglers from their local Department of Social Services.
Marine Resources Funds
Proceeds from the sale of this license will go into two marine resources funds managed by the state’s Marine Fisheries and Wildlife Resources commissions. Revenues must be used to manage, protect, restore, develop, cultivate, conserve and/or enhance North Carolina’s marine resources.
For more license information, please call the DMF at 252-726-7021 or 800-682-2632,
