Folks last years 2009 OCP Fishing Club event was successfully concluded and many requests have been fielded that we continue with the annual contest here at the pier. We hope you take advantage of the opportunity to join in on the excitement of a little friendly angling competition during the return of this 2010 event. Bragging rights are included............... Congrats to the winners of the event!

We're excited to announce the 2010 Annual Ocean Crest Pier Fishing Club Contest. It’s simple to join up (See category Fee’s below) , and no other club fees or dues are required. Here's the details on how you may join in and the format under which you'll participate. There will be an informal monthly gathering held at the tackle shop beginning in April and ending in October. These will be held the 3rd Saturday of each month at 12 pm in the tackle shop in order we discuss in public forum the current standing of the angler’s catches and any input relative to the contest such as additional prizes, or specie additions. Our intent is to provide anglers the opportunity to compete in the event on a friendly level playing field and enjoy the rewards of a little neighborly competition.

[How to Join Category Fee’s required per specie.]

There are no additional contest fees outside of the ($10) entry per species of fish categories. Anglers of all ages and skill levels will compete for the pool of collective monies paid by each member to fish and register at weigh-in a particular species of fish. There will be "8" species of fish that you may choose from into which you will pay a separate ten dollar ($10) entry. Anglers may join in as few as one (1) species category or as many of the total "8" categories they choose. The maximum amount any angler may choose to enter is "8" species at a cost of eighty dollars ($80) annually. Anglers will ply their talents beginning April 1st 2009 through November 1st 2010 while vying for a percentage share of the entire per species pool of monies. The per species pool of monies will be divided on a 50/30/20 % bases to the top three fish weighed in by all anglers for each of the "8" fish species. There will be a total of 24 positions paid on that percentage bases among the total of all fish weighed in the eight "8" individual fish species by anglers. The payout will be on the largest, second largest, and third largest fish from each of the eight species listed below and payouts will be awarded using the following percentage formula. Eight "8" 1st place payouts @ 50 % of the total amount collected for each of the Eight "8" species of fish, Eight "8" 2nd place payouts @ 30% of the total amount collected for each of the Eight "8" species of fish, and 20% of the total amount collected for the Eight "8" species of fish weighing in as the 3rd heaviest fish from among those Eight "8" species of fish. The Eight "8" Species of fish that may qualify for entry into the contest are. Whiting aka (Kingfish, Virginia Mullet, Sea Mullet) , Black drum, Flounder ( Summer or Southern), Speckled Trout, Atlantic Pompano, Bluefish, Spanish Mackerel, and King Mackerel. All tie weighted fish will qualify based on the first respective fish caught which may qualify for one of the top three among a particular specie payout positions. No more than three payouts per specie. Anglers may qualify for more than one payout per species following the general guidelines of the event that apply to all anglers paying entry fees for that particular species.

The contest will finalize at 12 pm November the 1st 2010. Winners may receive their prize monies beginning at 12 pm November the 1st 2010. Entrants do not have to be present in order they collect their prize winnings. Entrants absent November the 1st 2010 will have their winnings forwarded to them via Registered and Certified U.S Mail with-in 7 business days. $7 Postage will be deducted from their winnings. All prize monies will be made payable via Bank Check. Anglers will be required notify the pier staff in order winnings be mailed and asked to forward a correct mailing address at the conclusion of the event in order they receive any winnings due.

The rules are simple. Hook and line catches via Rod and Reel. Fish may be lifted via a drop net or landing gaff. Multiple species may be weighed in as long as an angler has joined the annual pool for each those species. Anglers may place in as many of the species in which they have entered and in as many payout positions their catches meet qualifications. The fish must be with-in the legal size qualifications under NC State and Federal Fisheries mandates. Any species of fish which may become seasonally restricted under new laws or regulations will qualify all anglers entering into those pools of monies a refund for that particular species of fish. The Fish must be caught via Ocean Crest Pier and the angler has purchased either a Season, Daily or Multiple day pass which is current. The fish must be caught & weighed in during Tackle Shop operating hours and with-in five minutes of being caught. By joining in on the event you are agreeing to have your likeness used for marketing, advertising and promotional purposes here at Ocean Crest Pier Inc., with-out further monetary or material compensation.

Anglers may begin joining the contest species pools beginning April 1st 2010 and up until October 15th 2010. New Anglers must enter the contests pool before their fishing begins each day. No fish will qualify which is caught 1st and before an angler has entered the contest pool specific to that species of fish each day.

THE FISH MUST BE PRESENTED TO PIER STAFF FOR OFFICIAL WEIGH-IN. DURING TACKLESHOP HOURS and WITH-IN FIVE MINUTES OF BEING CAUGHT.
